I read an article in the Pittsburgh Business Times about this proposed legislation. Pennsylvania is at a disadvantage when it comes to attracting large data centers. Twenty states currently have data center-specific tax incentives, including neighboring Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. This legislation would eliminate sales tax on equipment data centers purchase. To qualify, a data center must be new or expanding, pay at least $1 million in wages to its workers and invest at least $25 million in counties with populations of less than 250,000, or $50 million in larger counties.

One thing is for certain: a higher PA Severance tax will cost the state jobs. We can debate over the number but the bottom line is that many jobs will be lost. Look at what is already happening in the industry due to low gas prices. PA cannot afford to lose these family sustaining jobs.
