I read an article in the Pittsburgh Business Times about this proposed legislation. Pennsylvania is at a disadvantage when it comes to attracting large data centers. Twenty states currently have data center-specific tax incentives, including neighboring Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. This legislation would eliminate sales tax on equipment data centers purchase. To qualify, a data center must be new or expanding, pay at least $1 million in wages to its workers and invest at least $25 million in counties with populations of less than 250,000, or $50 million in larger counties.
